Where can you get free aptitude test practice in the UK?
by Nicholas Saunders · Published · Last reviewed
Short answer. Acumen Logic’s Benchmark is a free 17-minute aptitude test — 20 timed questions across numerical, verbal and logical reasoning. No account, no email and no card are needed to start it. Your estimated percentile and the correct answer to every question are revealed at the end, when you create a free account to claim the result. It can only be taken once.
“Free aptitude test practice” returns a great many results and very few honest ones. Most free material is a sample designed to end at the paywall, and almost none of it gives you the one thing that actually helps at the start: a score you can trust, measured under real time pressure, that tells you how far you are from the standard employers sift at.
This page explains exactly what is free here, what is not, and what else is genuinely free elsewhere — including material we do not sell.
What do you get free from Acumen Logic?
One thing, in full: the Benchmark. It is the same diagnostic paying users sit, not a cut-down demo.
- 20 questions in 17 minutes, across three separately timed sections — numerical reasoning (8 questions, 8 minutes), verbal reasoning (7 questions, 6 minutes) and abstract reasoning (5 questions, 3 minutes).
- An instant estimated percentile, so the number means something relative to other candidates rather than being a bare mark out of 20.
- A section-by-section breakdown naming which reasoning type is weakest.
- An answer review — the correct answer revealed for every question, kept permanently.
- No card, at any point. There is no trial to cancel because there is no trial.
Do you need an account to take it?
Not to sit it. You start the Benchmark with no account, no email address and no payment method — the attempt is held in your browser and scored on our servers as you go.
You do need a free account to see your score. At the end of the 17 minutes the result exists and is waiting; creating the free account is what attaches it to you so it can be saved, tracked and compared later. We would rather say that plainly here than let you discover it after you have spent 17 minutes on it. There is no card at that step either.
Why can you only take it once?
This is the unusual part, so it is worth explaining rather than hiding.
The Benchmark is a measurement, not a practice drill. The moment you have seen the questions, a second attempt measures your memory of them as much as your reasoning — and the percentile stops being true. A diagnostic that can be re-rolled until it flatters you is not a diagnostic. Employers give you one sitting; so do we. The limit is one completed Benchmark per person and it is enforced in the database, not by an honour system.
The practical consequence: do not sit it on a phone on a train. Give it 17 uninterrupted minutes, with a calculator and something to write on, the way you would give the real thing.
What is genuinely free elsewhere?

| Source | What is free | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| The test publishers themselves Confirmed |
SHL, Aon and other publishers put free example questions and practice tests on their own sites. | Usually short and untimed, with no percentile. But it is the most authentic free material there is — it comes from the people who wrote your test. Start here. |
| Your university careers service Confirmed |
Many UK universities licence a practice platform that is free to their own students, plus one-to-one guidance. | You have to be enrolled, and provision varies by institution. Most students never check. Check. |
| Prep companies’ free samples Reported |
Most paid prep providers publish a free sample test or a handful of free questions. | Sized to demonstrate the product rather than to measure you. Rarely timed like the real thing, rarely scored against a comparison group. |
| Acumen Logic Confirmed |
One full timed diagnostic — 20 questions, 17 minutes, estimated percentile, section breakdown, every correct answer. | One attempt, ever. Everything past the diagnostic — provider replicas, teaching drills, analytics — is paid. |
Last verified 10 September 2026. Publisher and university offerings change without notice — check the source directly before relying on any of them.
What is not free here?
Being straight about this is the point of the page. Past the Benchmark, everything is behind Pro: replica assessments built to SHL, Aon (cut-e) and Cappfinity formats, 25 teaching drills, the step-by-step breakdown after every wrong answer, and the full analytics. Pro is a one-off payment, not a subscription.
You do not need any of it to take the Benchmark, and you should not buy it before you have.
Where to start
Sit the Benchmark first, properly, once. Then read the complete guide to UK graduate aptitude tests to find out which provider your employers actually use, and when to start preparing for the 2026/27 season. If the gap between your percentile and the standard you are aiming at is small, free material and a few timed sessions may be all you need.
Common questions
Is the Acumen Logic Benchmark really free?
Yes. The Benchmark costs nothing and no card is asked for at any point. You start it without an account, an email address or a payment method. A free account is created at the end, when you claim your score, because the result has to belong to someone in order to be saved.
Why can you only take it once?
Because a percentile from a second attempt would be a worse measurement, not a better one. Once you have seen the questions your score reflects familiarity as well as ability, which is exactly the thing a diagnostic is meant to strip out. Employers give you one sitting too. The limit is one completed Benchmark per person, enforced in the database.
What free aptitude test practice is actually available in the UK?
More than most people expect, and less than it looks. The test publishers themselves publish free example questions and practice tests, which are the most authentic free material available. University careers services license practice platforms that are free to their own students. Prep companies offer free samples designed to lead into a paid product. Acumen Logic gives one full timed diagnostic with a percentile and full answer review, once.
Do you need to practise aptitude tests at all?
Practice will not turn weak reasoning into strong reasoning in a week, but it reliably removes the losses that have nothing to do with ability: misreading the format, mismanaging the clock, and meeting an interactive answer mechanic for the first time under exam conditions. Find your baseline first, then decide how much preparation the gap actually justifies.
