Acumen Logic is UK aptitude-test preparation for finance and consulting graduate applications. It exists because an online test is an early step at many graduate employers, and because, in our view, the skill it measures can be taught.
The reality
Where the test sits.
We checked 312 UK employers that hire graduates and early-careers candidates in finance and consulting for the 2026/27 cycle. Here is what that research shows, and what we take from it.
The test is common.
We found a source for an online test at 187 of the 312 employers, in at least one programme. Not every test is timed the same way; each provider guide has the detail.
The test often comes early.
At 156 of those 187 employers, in at least one programme, that online test comes before a later interview or assessment centre. It can decide whether you reach the people who interview.
The bar is relative.
Reported scoring compares you with a group of other people, not a fixed mark (see the providers comparison).
- SHL: a group the employer chooses (reported)
- Aon: a group the employer chooses (reported)
- Cappfinity: the other applicants (reported)
- Arctic Shores: an older sample report shows the same idea
So being good may not be enough. Where you sit in the group counts.
In our view, it can be trained.
Each publisher uses its own question formats, and each format has its own traps. We suggest learning them before the day, so the format is not what costs you marks.
The story
Why this exists.
I started Acumen Logic after seeing first-hand how competitive the UK job market is, especially in finance.
Aptitude tests were always my favourite part of an application. My peers never quite understood that, but it meant that every application season, friends came to me for advice on how to approach them. The more I practised, the faster and more accurate I became, and the tests stopped feeling like a hurdle. Somewhere along the way it became clear that this wasn't a talent. It was a skill I had trained, and a skill that can be taught.
That's what Acumen Logic is. It identifies your weakest areas and targets them with concise, practical drills, so the test stops being the thing that ends your application. My goal is simple: help you clear the aptitude-test hurdle, reach the later rounds, and land the job you actually want.
The standard
How the content is built.
- Where a publisher publishes a time limit, the replica uses it, though not always with the same number of questions. Where it publishes none, the setting is our own, and we say so.
- One difference we state openly: our replicas score each question 1 or 0, including Aon, which says points are usually deducted for wrong answers on its performance tests.
- Material from the publisher or the employer outranks everything else. Where a fact rests on prep sites or candidate reports, we label it Reported.
- Your percentile is an estimate from a statistical model, not a live count of other people's scores. It is labelled "estimated" everywhere it appears.
- When a publisher changes a test, the replica gets corrected.
